    Julio C. Argueta has been with the law firm since 2003. Julio has been a partner with the firm since 2005. Julio's areas of practice include a great deal of court time and litigation. They include Criminal Law, Traffic/DUI Defense and Personal Injury. Julio is also experienced in Real Estate, primarily residential closings. Julio is fluent in both the English and Spanish languages. Prior to joining the law firm, Julio worked for the Lake County State's Attorney's Office between the years 2000 through 2003. Through his experience as a Prosecutor for the State's Attorney's Office, Julio worked a wide variety of Felonies and Misdemeanors, such as: DUI, traffic, Domestic Violence, Drug Cases, Armed Violence and Vehicle Forfeiture matters. Julio attended law school at Loyola University in Chicago, IL. Julio graduated from Loyola in 2000. Julio worked as a clerk for a prestigious medical malpractice/personal injury law firm in Chicago, IL throughout his law school years. Julio also completed an internship at the Cook County State's Attorney's Office from 1999 through 2000. Julio completed his undergraduate work at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. Julio is also very proud of being a member of the University of Illinois Fighting Illini Football team, having played with many athletes who reached the NFL. Julio's time at U of I was very fulfilling academically and athletically.

    Caryn began her start in the Lake County legal community when as a Lake County Assistant State's Attorney in October of 2007. During her seven and a half years in the Office, Caryn handled DUIs, traffic cases, misdemeanors, domestic violence cases and felony cases including serious sex crimes and murders. During her tenure with the Lake County State's Attorney's Office Caryn developed an excellent reputation with all sides of the legal community, including police officers, Defense Attorneys, Prosecutors and Judges, as someone who is not only fair and just, but also as an attorney who is not afraid to go to trial. As an Assistant State's Attorney, Caryn tried over 70 cases to verdict and is known for being able to think on her feet and execute effective cross examinations. Caryn took the reputation and skill set she built with the State's Attorney's Office with her to the law firm of Soffietti, Johnson, Teegen, Phillips and Argueta LTD in January of 2015, where she is the Village Prosecutor for the all traffic, ordinance violations and DUIs for the Village of Fox Lake. Caryn also handles traffic, criminal and DUI cases. Caryn's ability to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of a case and decide which cases should go to trial and which cases need to be resolved is an asset as a Defense Attorney. Caryn heads the firm's Family Law and Divorce practice including child support matters, parentage actions, divorces, orders of protection and post decree matters. Caryn has been on the Lake County Guardian Ad Litem list since 2016 where she is appointed by the Court to represent the best interests of minor children involved in divorce, parentage and order of protection situation. Caryn's litigation skill set and experience provides her with an edge in Family Law and Divorce cases. Caryn was named partner January 1, 2020.     Born and raised in Indiana, Mr. Bawcum graduated from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, California in 2005.   • Howard R. Teegen

    Managing Partner

    After graduating from DePaul University's School of Law, Howard joined Soffietti, Johnson, Teegen, Argueta, Bawcum & Barone in 1971. As a managing partner since 1977, Howard heads the firm's commercial, construction, and corporate litigation and transactional divisions as well as the firm's Appellate practice. Howard is also the acting Village Attorney for the Village of Fox Lake, a client that the firm has represented for over 28 years since 1981. Howard brings over 41 years of experience in representing parties in construction, corporate and commercial related disputes, including breach of contract lawsuits, mechanic's lien cases and representation of banking institutions seeking to recover on mortgages and other collateral, along with handling business acquisitions and sales. Howard's practice also includes the representation of commercial and residential land development companies in each phase of the land development process, ranging from land acquisition, the entitlement process, negotiations and agreements with local municipal and state entities, and ultimately, in some instances, the sale of developed property to interested parties, national builders and corporations. Howard has developed throughout the years a reputation for being both a fearless advocate on behalf of his clients and a fair and reasonable adversary to his opponents. Howard currently resides in Hawthorn Woods, Illinois, with his wife Barbara, with whom he has two children and six grandchildren.
